Backup and restore procedure on format

E-mail Print PDF

Before formatting here is a list of things to do before formatting is to commence.

1. Backup Files for SabnzbD+

The location of the files for each operating system can be found below:

Windows XP/2003 c:\documents and settings\user\local data\application data\sabnzbd
Windows Vista or 7 c:\Users\user\AppData\Local\sabnzbd
Unix $HOME/.sabnzbd
OSX /Users/user/Library/Application Support/SABnzbd

2. Backup Sickbeard Files

backup your config.ini , database & autoprocessTV.cfg from the installed directory.  Usually it's located under sabnzbd++

3. Backup Databases

Although it hasn't been an issue in the past because the db files seem to survive a format.  Visit http://isilver18.homeserver.com/pma or http://192.168.100.112/pma to backup the database.

4. Backup all IIS Settings

Backup all website settings from IIS.  This just makes it easier to restore IIS: Right click on website > Al Tasks > Save Configuration to a file

Things to do after format is complete

The very first thing we should always try and do is as many updates as possible even if it requires several reboots.  Things must be up to date.

1. Create a new user called WHS Services

This will become the main login that everything should be installed as.  It's also the one that has an auto-login created.  Visit http://www.i-lan.ca/index.php/technology/whs/96-autologin-with-autolock-at-startup to set this profile as the main login when computer starts up.

1. Here is a list of applications to restore after format is complete:

  • Filezilla
  • Nero
  • AVS Video Converter
  • Google Chrome
  • J. Rivers Media Center
  • Newsbin
  • Quickpar
  • Winrar
  • 7zip
  • logmein
It's best to start with Google Chrome as it works far better then Internet Explorer 6.
Once installation is completed follow the steps in the document:

2. Install Add-ons

Here are the add-ons that should be installed on the server

  • MYSQL Installer for WHS
  • Advanced Admin Console
  • WHS PHP Installer
    Note:
  • WebFolder4WHS
Note: The default storage location for the web service should be servers

3. Restore IIS

There are a number of things that you have to do to make sure IIS is running again.  Follow the steps below:

1. Restore the IIS configuration file.

2. Change the important websites permissions to include iusr_server (Anonymous website access).

3. Goto website properties Documents and add index.php as a default website to load.

4. Goto home directory > configuration > add .php and the php isappi driver.

5. Make sure to give all database read and write access to iusr_server.  Specially for MTS but perhaps others.

Autologin with autolock at startup

E-mail Print PDF

The first article was stolen from this site: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/324737

To use Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe) to turn on automatic logon, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, and then click Run.
  2. In the Open box, type Regedt32.exe, and then press ENTER.
  3. Locate the following subkey in the registry:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
  4. Double-click the DefaultUserName entry, type your user name, and then click OK.
  5. Double-click the DefaultPassword entry, type your password, and then clickOK.NOTE: If the DefaultPassword value does not exist, it must be added. To add the value, follow these steps:

    1. On the Edit menu, click New, and then point to String Value.
    2. Type DefaultPassword, and then press ENTER.
    3. Double-click DefaultPassword.
    4. In the Edit String dialog, type your password and then click OK.
NOTE: If no DefaultPassword string is specified, Windows automatically changes the value of the AutoAdminLogon key from 1 (true) to 0 (false), disabling the AutoAdminLogon feature.

  6. On the Edit menu, click New, and then point to String Value.
  7. Type AutoAdminLogon, and then press ENTER.
  8. Double-click AutoAdminLogon.
  9. In the Edit String dialog box, type 1 and then click OK.
  10. Quit Registry Editor.
  11. Click Start, click Shutdown, and then type a reason in the Comment text box.
  12. Click OK to turn off your computer.
  13. Restart your computer. You can now log on automatically.

Notes To bypass the AutoAdminLogon process and to log on as a different user, hold down the SHIFT key after you log off or after Windows restarts.

Registry change will not work if the “Logon Banner” is defined on the server either by a Group Policy object (GPO) or by a local policy. When policy is changed to not impact server, the feature works as expected.

An interactive console logon that has a different user on the server changes the DefaultUserName registry entry as the last logged on user indicator. AutoAdminLogon relies on the DefaultUserName entry to match the user and the password. Therefore, AutoAdminLogon may fail. You may configure a shutdown script to set the correct DefaultUserName entry for AutoAdminLogonAs. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

The second part is to setup auto lock on startup:

1. Create a shortcut in the startup menu directing to rundll32.exe user32.dll, LockWorkStation.
